I moved to California in the early sixties from New York City where I had my early training. I attended the High School of Art and Design, and the Art Students League. In California, I was introduced to the beauty and creativity of pastels by Jackie DiCello, noted Pacifica artist and teacher.

I came to love the immediacy and vibrant colors of pastels – the immediacy of drawing and the colors of the oil pigments. There is also a forgiving nature with the medium and this seems to encourage experimentation. Whether I am doing an abstract, a figurative image or a landscape, I am always amazed at the versatility of pastels, the lasting brilliance of the colors and the variation of possible techniques and tools.

Working with monoprints affords me the greatest opportunity for experimentation and the ability to combine media. I am able to simplify my expression as far as I can, to remove detail and see what remains of an idea. I am also working with acrylic paints and find that this medium offers so many possibilities for discovery and expression.

I was a founding member of the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica, and I am a member of the Mendocino Art Center, Women’s Caucus for Art, Coastal Arts League, and other artists groups. I served on the Cultural Arts Commission in Pacifica and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Commission in 2001. My work is in many private collections and I have exhibited in Chicago, Long Beach, California, Pacifica, Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz and other locations. I own Seaweed Studio, a custom picture framing business.
